History of Microsoft Outlook & different versions



Microsoft outlook is the oldest personal IM from Microsoft. The IM comes with every genuine Microsoft suite. 

The journey started with the inception of Windows 97 in the year 1997. Before this, Outlook used to exit but with Microsoft Exchange server 5.5 which was pretty inefficient. Outlook came with this 97 suite offering very basic features like emailing, contacts, calendar, notes, to name a few. Even though the features were limited and basic; Outlook 8.0 version for Windows 97 was a complete PIM to meet the business and personal requirements for a variety of sectors. Microsoft always came up with outstanding features – be it its Windows versions or Outlook PIM versions. 

Next outlook version – 8.5, better known as Outlook 98, arrived with the mounting of Windows 98. Better features, more security, more user-centric interface and much more stuff to rejoice a professional PIM experience. Outlook 98 was followed by Outlook 2002, Outlook 2003, Outlook 2007, Outlook 2010, Outlook 2011, Outlook 2013 and few others. Outlook also leveraged the MAC users with Outlook 2011 and a special Outlook 15.3 version. Apart from Windows and MAC, the PIM is available for notes, tablets and mobiles. The latest version of the service launched in 2015 which is included with Office 365.
